We had a bad experience with Shalom Movers when we recently moved apartment. Their workers caused SG$500 worth of damage to a fixture and the landlord (not unreasonably) asked us to pay for repairs. As Shalom was solely responsible for the damage we attempted to pass the repair bill on to them. Initially they offered only S$100 compensation but after escalating to senior management this was grudgingly increased to $250 take-it in next couple of days-or-leave-it.
Their CEO, Gabriel Lam, not only refused to take a call on the matter but also refused to supply the terms and conditions of the contract we signed. We assume by refusing our request for T&C he thinks he can hide his obligation to pay up.
Not only did Shalom shirk responsibility for full payment, we found their management’s attitude to be arrogant and contemptuous and would advise anyone moving to consider more customer-focused removal companies.
My experience with Shalom Movers was fantastic. From the booking process to the execution of the move by the Movers, WOW considering 10 years of being constantly on the move.
My husband was sick several days before the move and we thought the move might have to be postponed. Their admin was professional and suggested several alternative dates with a small change fee which is expected. In the end we did not have to change the date and the move carried on as scheduled. Their Salesman even called me on the date of the move to check on my husband's condition!! Talk about care for the customer.
The movers were a happy bunch, smiling, laughing, yet polite at all times. They wrapped my furniture well and made sure my items were well taken care of. They made moving actually fun.
I was so impressed, I ordered pizza for the guys.
You have a customer for life Shalom and you can be sure I will be spreading your good work.

Very very disappointed with their service. The coordination and operation side is grossly incompetent. The actual guys doing the packing and moving we had no issue with, they had a great attitude but the ops side seriously left much to be desired.
I hired them because I had a positive experience 7 years ago but unfortunately something must have gone wrong in the intervening years. The guys were supposed to complete everything we had on a Friday and move it all into storage the next day (ie a 2-day job) but they ONLY sent 2 guys to do the packing who couldn't finish packing and had to call for backup. Eventually there were 5 guys packing but they had to leave by 530pm. There were not enough materials to pack a huge mirror we had so they said they would get more and bring them the next day.
I wanted to ensure that there were enough people to finish the job the next day so I tried to call Shalom's office but nobody picked up as it was after office hours. I sent an email but nobody responded. At this point I would just like to highlight that as a moving company there should have been after hours support, perhaps a mobile number we could call but this was not available either on the website or their automated voicemail message.
The next day, when the supervisor arrived, I highlighted that the packing wasn't finished yet and because it was a Saturday, they would have to finish the packing AND moving by 1pm. He took a look at what needed to be done and said he needed more guys and told me to call their office to expedite this. I called the office and demanded to speak to a supervisor. Luckily they responded and quickly gave me the mobile number of Henry, whom they said was in charge of my move. He was driving when I called, but managed to quickly respond and tell me that he was sending another supervisor down with more guys. Remember the extra packing materials for my mirror? Well, the guy told me that they had informed Henry they needed extra packing materials but he had not followed up. The extra packing materials arrived only later.
Subsequently, although they managed to complete the move by 3pm, I was not sent the inventory list until 2 weeks later. I even had to chase for this. Then, when arranging the re delivery date, they sent me a confirmation email with the WRONG date. After we pointed this out, they then apologised and sent the correct date BUT with an afternoon timing of arrival.
Now on the phone previously, I had spoken with their staff who told me ours was a full one day job due to the number of items (2 lorry loads). So after I clarified this, she then sent an email to say "see you at 830am". Wouldn't you assume this means they would arrive at 830?
We waited till 9am on the day of the move, and they still weren't here. When I called, the office informed me that the 830 timing meant they would start loading up at 830 from their warehouse storage and would only arrive at 2-3pm. What the? I called and made an issue and someone then called back and told me that there was apparently a note that had said I requested arrival only after 130pm. Now I had definitely never made any such request at any point in time.
I am still waiting for the arrival of my items and if there is any damage or loss, I will not hesitate to pursue legal action.
Just moved in june 2016 from within the same building. Very surprised at their service - men are capable but were short one man and were given little time to move the whole apartment.
Later the gave excuses about not moving something's as it was not written when clearly everything had to be moved as was agreed. Didn't even wrap some of the items.
Very surprised in spite of their awards etc. Really disappointed. Expected much better from shalom.
It seems workers are always an issue in this country -big or small or so called reputable companies have similar issues but they should not trouble the client with their issues.
I regret to say that we faced nothing but problems in this move with Shalom. Here is a litany of our woes:
1. We clearly had a requirement that the move be completed in 2 days. Richard Lee came at the time of giving us a quote - knew well about this and had assured that he will do the same and only minor items would remain on the third day. As it happened, even till 8pm on the third day the work was not done
2. On the first day, only 3 workers came and that too with less than required boxes so obviously the packing could not be done. This delayed the entire process - even Richard came to apologize the next day.
3. On the second day, Shalom people created so many problems at our place including long delays in shipment & unwrapping. Even till 8:30 the work wasn't done and I had to cut a sorry figure with the management here. And to to worsen the situation, your workers misbehaved with the security, dirtied the place etc. so much that the management had to reprimand them. Azra from Shalom team does not know how to behave - even I had to tell him to mind his manners.
4.On the third day, only 4 people turned up again and worked terribly slowly. I spoke to Richard again in the morning and he assured me that the work would be done by 1 pm latest. Again the commitments were flouted and work went on till 8pm at the end of which, we just gave in and signed the papers just to get your people out of our house.
5. Despite insuring our Bose system, they broke a speaker which we found only upon installation. Also they broke several dishes and expensive porcelain dolls that we had brought all the way from Shanghai. We requested for S$500 plus repair cost of Bose system - upon inquiring about the reimbursement, they offered a meager $200 and that too as a "gesture of goodwill" from their General Manager Gabriel!
Its been nothing but pain dealing with them. Strongly recommend that you stay away from them.
This is a competent moving company that believes in their high standard of service. They provided the standard boxes for use during the move. Their staff were also given a standard checklist of what needed to be done for each service.
You will frequently see their trucks with their company logo on the road. They have very big trucks and fully covered so you do not need to worry about the weather during your move. They will normally assign a few staff to each truck and the staff will know how to arrange the items to fit the most items into one truck to save on the number of trips.
I have tried a number of movers to move house or shift offices over the past few years. I tried Shalom Movers during my house moving over the weekend. We were on a budget so we went for the lowest quote. I usually have some reservations going with the lowest quote and do not expect stellar service. In this case though, it was worth it. Aside from being affordable, they were provided one of the best service of the moving companies I have tried so far.
They were friendly, handled our furniture with care, and efficient. When they reached the destination, it was raining heavily. Even though there was shelter available, they did not rush to unload over items. Instead, they waited half an hour for the rain to stop so that there would be no risk of damaging our furniture.
Very accommodating and great service.
