Ippudo is raved by many and is quite well known for its ramen! I did not even know where it was located at and only heard about its awesome ramen from friends initially. Located at Mandarin Gallery at Orchard road, thoughts about Ippudo that immediately came to mind must be 'atas', 'expensive', 'classy' etc. And that's right, Ippudo is expensive, may seem a little 'atas' and the place is definitely classy. However, the steep prices are very worth it and the ramen will surely make you squeal in joy.
Not only is ramen well-liked by many, the pork bun is delightful too! If the bowl of ramen cannot satisfy you, this definitely would. If I did not recall wrongly, I had Karaka-men the last time I went. It is Ippudo's tonkatsu broth with spicy miso and ground pork. What makes Ippudo's ramen different from all the other ramen is the broth. It was a little sweet, flavorful and does not taste like it is made up of MSG. Definitely not something that you have tasted before! Kind of refreshing, actually. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy and the waiters are dressed in Japanese styled uniforms, together with the authentic japanese food, it makes one feel like he/she is in Japan itself. No kidding!
Even though the bill might sum up to around $60 and more for two people on the average, Ippudo is a desirable place to dine at for everyone. The broth will really blow your mind and makes you wish that you have endless flow of the broth. Do remember to go on empty stomach, you wouldn't want to miss out the flavorful ramen here!

Ippudo has been a long-term favourite of mine and I always recommend everyone I know to come here due to it’s consistently good food and service.
I usually get the Shiromaru Motaji ($18.45) which has a classic tonkotsu broth. However, when I’m feeling a bit more adventurous I like to go for the Karaka-Men ($24.50) for the spicy kick that the miso provides. For the ramen, you can choose the degree of hardness you want your noodles. I prefer ‘hard’ as it will arrive al dente, meaning that it won’t become soggy and merge with your broth. I also recommend the pork bun ($3) which is insanely delicious. The bun is soft, and the pork is mouth-wateringly tender.
If you’re wanting some good ramen, come here. They have six branches in Singapore. It’s worth the trip.
I recently went to Ippudo (for the first time) with two friends. To me, anything in Orchard is classified "expensive" and "atas" and true enough, Ippudo was both. A meal for three totaled about $80 -$90 but all I can say is that it was TOTALLY WORTH IT. I'm serious! I ordered their original ramen and pork bun and was left speechless while trying it.
It may sound exaggerating (okay, maybe a little) but the ramen was really fantastic. You can even choose whether you want your ramen hard or soft and the broth was just as delicious. The service was great (waiter was patient with a first-timer like me) too and we definitely enjoyed our experience at Ippudo.
Ippudo is an extremely popular ramen place that lives up to its hype, though being slightly overpriced. The atmosphere more than makes up for the price - there is a constant buzz of energy interlaced with vociferous Japanese greetings from the waiters and kitchen staff.
The menu is not very comprehensive; but there is no need for it to be. You have more or less the same ramen and stock with some choices of meat (pork belly, karaage, etc). No matter what you choose you will have a good meal.
Although many people go for the tables, I actually prefer to sit on the long row of tables facing the kitchen. Most traditional Japanese restaurants have the same layout as it is the most space-efficient method due to typically small stores.
I went to Ippudo on a date with my friend, and the food was lovely. Nothing better than good company and a nice warm bowl of ramen, especially when i'ts pouring with rain outside since it's the rainy season. I also ordered their tofu curry which was extremely flavourful.
The only downside to Ippudo is that it is a pretty small outlet and the waiting time for a seat is approximately 20-30 minutes. Even after queuing my friend and I couldn't get a table to ourselves but actually had to share it with 4 other people. But since the table was quite big we could still have our own conversation without being interrupted by other diners. However, I'd still have preferred to be seated on our own.
But Ippudo is worth giving a try!
Ippudo is likely to serve one of the best Japanese ramen in Singapore. Located conveniently at Mandarin Oriental, it attracts many people there for dinner, or lunch. I was there at 4pm for an early dinner and the restaurant was nearly packed! Every friend that I have brought to Ippudo had good comments and were satisfied with the food there.
I always have my usual cha shu ramen when I am there. The soup is thick and tasty. The noodles are of the right texture and the entire bowl of soup is full of Japanese essence. The gyozas that they serve are juicy and are a delightful complement to the ramen.
I always leave the restaurant feeling satisfied. However, because the restaurant is not big, the tables are placed closely next to each other. And on several occasions, we even had to share table. So I wouldn't recommend this place if you are looking for a nice romantic dinner. Otherwise, their ramen is definitely worth a visit.
Be prepared because Ippudo will definitely have long ques. Sometimes, the que will be split into 2 sections so don't get your hopes up when you enter Ippudo from the outside because that would just lead into another long que inside.
Foodwise, food is absolutely delicious. Choose from 3 different bases then choose your combination. My favorite combination would be the spicy base with thin noodles and the one that comes with their special Onsen egg and meat. The egg that they serve is very special indeed. It is hardboiled but the yolk inside is very soft! The meat is extremely succulent so be ready to experience a roller coaster in your mouth!
There are always long queues at Ippudo, especially during lunch/dinner hours. Don't be tricked when you see just a few people outside the restaurant - There's a waiting/holding area inside the restaurant that can hold an average of 6-7 people!
However, I think it is worth the queue. You get to choose the softness of your noodle which is really cool cos you get to customize it to your liking. Particularly like the egg (it's an add on and definitely worth it) - because it's egg yolk is watery. Really good!
Ambience wise, it is too noisy to my liking an I had to share this large bench with other people so it's a 2.
There is always a long queue of hungry-looking people snaking around the big centre table at the entrance to Ippudo on the third floor of Mandarin Gallery, and for good reason. The food is reasonably-priced and quite delicious.
I usually order the pork belly ramen cooked “hard” which makes it al dente (you can choose the degree of noodle hardness/softness determined by boiling time). All the broth choices are equally good. I highly recommend the asparagus with poached egg, which is a cold dish.
For diners who have a problem with communal seating arrangements, Ippudo would not be a good option because there are few individual tables.
As mentioned in the header, I was pretty shocked to find out that the prices of Ramen at Ippudo was almost comparable to Aijisen Ramen. However, the quality of the food here is much, much better. I think i ordered Ramen with pork (can't remember the name) and it was DELICIOUS. If i'm not wrong, the soup was clear (which surprised me a bit because usually Ramen is served in Miso-based soup) and the pork... don't get me started - It melts in your mouth, literally.
All in all, the dining experience there was fantastic. Service was great, food was served fast and the ambience of the restaurant was nice - subtly japanese themed.
Ippudo is pretty well known for its ramen in Singapore, and I must say that after having tried it myself, its no wonder why! The ramen comes in pretty large bowls, the soup is steaming hot and the ramen is 'just-so', not too hard and not too soft, with that bounciness and springy-ness that adds wonderful texture to what could just be boring ramen. The soup is really good but may be a tad salty for some people. The best part of the ramen would be the pork slices which are so tender, soft and tasty. Other than that, the egg is also perfectly well done. You break it open and the yolk is orange and still slightly soft.
The other dishes at ippudo are also really good from what I've tasted so far. The soft egg rolls are perfectly done; fluffy and delicious. Their salad is also really good and is a must try! They give a really big portion and it comes with some great sweet potato and tapioca chips; the dressing is also refreshing and special. Finally, you should try the tofu side dish. it's a really simple dish, but the tofu is silky smooth and it comes with their special sesame sauce which is great when paired with the tofu.
Unfortunately, as much as you may want a steaming bowl of ramen on a rainy day, Ippudo is located at Mandarin Gallery which is not accessible by covered walkways. Also, be sure to go either early or later in the afternoon if you do not want to wait as the place gets really crowded during lunch and dinner time. Finally, make sure that all your friends are there! They do not allow groups to be seated until everyone has arrived!
